Fire engines, a fire hose, free ice cream and two helicopters. Saturday is sorted.

Bend Fire & Rescue will host a free open house on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North Fire Station, 63377 NE Jamison St., KTVZ reports.

It is part of Fire Prevention Month, and this year's theme, "Charge Into Fire Safety," is all about lithium-ion batteries: the ones in e-bikes, power tools, phones and tablets.

Planned activities include touring fire engines and ambulances, spraying a fire hose, live fire demonstrations, painting a City of Bend snowplow and family crafts. Airlink and Life Flight helicopters are scheduled to land at the station, and there will be free ice cream and giveaways.

The takeaway for the grown-ups: buy listed products, follow the charging instructions and recycle old batteries properly.
