Forget the spooky stereotypes. Bend is kicking off Bat Week with a morning of games, crafts and conservation — costumes encouraged, fangs optional.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Deschutes National Forest and nonprofit Discover Your Northwest host "Batacular" at forest headquarters, 63095 Deschutes Market Road, KTVZ reports.
The free, public event marks the start of Bat Week (Oct. 24–31), an international campaign backed by groups including the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Bat Conservation International. Expect bat-focused activities, games and crafts — the fun kind of science fair energy.
Halloween costumes are encouraged. Admission is free. Discover Your Northwest, founded in 1974, funds educational programs across the Northwest and beyond.
So if you've ever wanted to cheer for the planet's cutest nocturnal pest-control squad, Batacular is your cue. Bend: let's go batty — politely.
