Swords, Potions and Best in Show: Burlington's Anime Expo Went Full Geek Joy

Jinx from Arcane. An Enclave soldier from Fallout. A hotel ballroom packed with fandom joy. Burlington's anime-and-gaming weekend went gloriously over the top.

Last month, the main ballroom at Hotel Champlain filled with a walking cast list — Jinx from "Arcane," Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th," and an armored Enclave soldier from "Fallout" among them — while vendors sold art prints, weapon props and retro video games, the Caledonian Record reported on Oct. 5 via UVM's Community News Service.

It was the second year of the Vermont Anime and Gaming Expo, and the costume energy was real. When the contest wrapped, Ananda Sage took Best in Show dressed as Frieren from the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," in a handmade black-and-white look finished with golden accents.

The Record's Kyle Neece captured a room that treated geek culture like a community sport: craft, costume, collect and cheer. Burlington already knew how to do lake sunsets. Turns out it also knows how to do cosplay applause.

Save the date energy for year three starts now. We'll bring the foam sword.
