A downtown redevelopment is taking a new turn on Pleasant Street.

Developer Mark McNabb's 134 Pleasant St. project now seeks to demolish the Citizens Bank "West Building" down to the first-floor slab and rebuild it to the previously approved design, Seacoastonline reports. Engineers said the 1950s-era building has structural problems and does not meet current codes.

The Historic District Commission discussed the proposal at its Oct. 7 work session but did not give final approval. Members questioned the height of the proposed building and its fit with the historic district.

The plan will return to the commission. Keep an eye on future HDC agendas if you want to weigh in.
