Memphis has a new festival on the calendar, and its first run brought people downtown from well beyond the city limits.
The inaugural Memphis Jazz Festival drew crowds to downtown for a weekend of live music, WREG reports, with the final day's performances at Peabody Square.
"We were looking for a new demand generator, and this has proven to be one," said Milton Howery III, chief marketing officer of the Downtown Memphis Commission. "We've seen people today from New York, from Little Rock; it's a fantastic event."
Festival-goer Roscoe Robinson summed it up: "Memphis is love." Consider this the first of many encores.
