You booked the band, the permit came through, and the bar manager finally agreed to move the pool table. Now comes the part nobody warns you about: getting people to actually show up.

For most event promoters running local shows, festivals, fundraisers and open mics, social media is the first place to start. It's free to post, your audience is already scrolling, and one good video can do more for turnout than a stack of flyers taped to a lamppost. But the platforms change their rules constantly, and "just post more" isn't a strategy.

This guide covers what actually works in 2027, platform by platform, with a timeline you can copy and a checklist you can print.

## ![Evvnteventpromotionheadline1](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Evvnteventpromotionheadline1.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=Evvnteventpromotionheadline1.jpg)

Social isn't slowing down. More than 2 in 3 people on Earth now use it: DataReportal's Digital 2026 report counts 5.66 billion active social media user identities, equal to 68.7 percent of the global population (DataReportal/Kepios, 2026).

Closer to home, Pew Research Center found that 84% of U.S. adults say they ever use YouTube, 71% use Facebook, half use Instagram and 37% use TikTok (Pew Research Center, 2025). About half of U.S. adults visit Facebook and YouTube at least once a day (Pew Research Center, 2025).

And people use those apps to decide what to do this weekend. Eventbrite's TRNDS 2025 report found that 64% of Gen Z and 61% of Millennials use social media to find things to do (Eventbrite, 2025). Almost one-third (30%) of Gen Z use TikTok specifically for event discovery, and one-quarter (24%) discover events by following people with similar interests on social media (Eventbrite, 2025).

The takeaway: your next crowd is scrolling right now. The job is to give them something worth stopping for.

## ![socialmediaevvntheadline2](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/socialmediaevvntheadline2.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=socialmediaevvntheadline2.jpg)

If you only have time for one kind of content, make it short video. In HubSpot's 2025 State of Marketing report, marketers named short-form video the format with the highest ROI (21%), ahead of images (19%) and live streamed video (16%) (HubSpot, 2025). Meta says video time spent on Instagram was up more than 30% year over year (Meta Q3 2025 earnings call, 2025).

What that looks like for a local event:

- **Hook in the first 3 seconds.** Open on the loudest, brightest, most interesting moment: the crowd singing along, the fire spinner, the first pour. Not your logo.
- **Keep it under 60 seconds.** Sprout Social's research found short videos under 60 seconds earn the most engagement on Instagram and TikTok (Sprout Social, 2025). Fifteen to 30 seconds is plenty for most event clips.
- **Add captions.** Lots of people watch with the sound off. Put the date, place and one reason to come right on screen.
- **Film vertically, film a lot.** At every event, collect 10 to 20 short clips. Those become next event's promo footage.
- **Show the vibe, not the flyer.** A slideshow of your poster is a poster. A clip of people laughing at the trivia host is a reason to buy a ticket.

## ![headline3evvnteventmarketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/headline3evvnteventmarketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=headline3evvnteventmarketing.jpg)

### Instagram and Reels

Instagram is still home base for most venues and performers.

- Post Reels for reach, carousels for details (lineup, schedule, parking, FAQ) and Stories for urgency.
- Use the **Collab** feature so a Reel shows up on both your profile and the performer's. Two audiences, one post.
- Put the event date and neighborhood in the first line of your caption. People decide fast.
- Pin your next event post to the top of your grid.

### Stories countdowns and link stickers

Stories are where "I should go to that" turns into "I'm going."

- Add a **countdown sticker** a week or two out. Followers can tap to get a reminder when it hits zero.
- Use a **link sticker** that goes straight to your ticket or RSVP page. Don't make people hunt in your bio.
- Run polls ("Which song should open the set?") to get followers invested before they even arrive.
- Save event Stories to a Highlight so latecomers can catch up.

### TikTok

TikTok rewards personality more than polish.

- Show behind the scenes: soundcheck, setting up chairs, the chef prepping 400 tacos.
- Ride trending sounds, but add your own local twist. "POV: you finally found a free jazz night in \[your town\]" works better than a generic dance.
- Use plain-language captions and on-screen text with your town name and event type, because people search TikTok like a search engine.
- Reply to comments with video. It's free content, and it shows people a real human runs the account.

## ![evvntmarketingeventmaketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/evvntmarketingeventmaketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=evvntmarketingeventmaketing.jpg)

Facebook gets written off every year, and every year it keeps filling community halls. It's where neighborhood groups, festival crowds and the "what's happening this weekend" crowd still gather. Almost 1.8 billion people use Facebook Groups every month, according to Meta (Meta, 2024). Treat Events and Groups as two halves of one plan: the Event is your official home, and Groups are where people hear about it.

### Facebook Events: setup tips

- **Create it from your Page,** not your personal profile, so it lives with your venue or brand.
- **Use a cover image without tiny text.** Use 1920 x 1005 pixels and keep the important stuff in the center, because Facebook crops it differently on phones and desktop.
- **Write a title people would search for.** "Friday Blues Night at The Rusty Anchor" beats "Vibes Vol. 7."
- **Front-load the details:** date, time, address, price range or "free," age limits, parking, accessibility. Then the fun stuff.
- **Pick the right category and location** so Facebook can recommend the Event to people nearby who like that kind of thing.

### Co-hosts

Add co-hosts: the band, the venue, the food truck, the nonprofit partner. Co-hosted Events appear on every co-host's Page and can reach every co-host's followers. It's one of the easiest ways to multiply visibility without spending a dime. Agree ahead of time on who answers questions in the Event so nothing sits unanswered.

### "Interested" and "Going" notifications

When someone taps Interested or Going, Facebook can keep them in the loop with reminders and updates as the date gets closer. Those taps also show up for their friends, which is free word of mouth. Make it easy: ask people in your posts and Stories to "tap Going so you get updates," and invite past attendees who engaged with your Page.

### Posting updates in the Event

The Event discussion is a direct line to everyone who raised their hand. Use it, but don't spam it. A good rhythm is one update a week, then more in the final days:

- Lineup reveals and set times
- A short video from the performer ("See you Saturday")
- Weather, parking or door-time changes
- A "last call" the day before

Every post is a fresh nudge to people who were on the fence.

### Ticket links

Add your ticket link in the Event's ticket field so the button shows right on the Event, and repeat it in the description and in updates. If tickets are free to RSVP, say so. Send everyone to one ticket page, not three different ones.

### Facebook Groups: joining and engaging with local groups

Local community groups ("Things to Do in \[Town\]," neighborhood groups, music scene groups, parent groups, foodie groups) are where locals ask "Anything fun this weekend?"

- Join as yourself or your Page, and **be a member before you're a promoter.** Answer questions, share other people's events, congratulate the new bakery.
- Interest groups matter too: a bluegrass fans group will care about your bluegrass night more than a general town group.

### Follow the group rules about promotion

Read the rules. Many groups only allow promotion on certain days, in a weekly thread, or with admin approval. Breaking them gets your post deleted and sometimes gets you removed. If you're not sure, message the admin and ask. Admins remember the promoters who asked politely.

### Start your own fan or regulars group

Once you have a following, start a group for your regulars: "Rusty Anchor Friday Night Crew" or "Riverside Fest Volunteers." Share early lineup news, presale access and photos there first. A small group of 200 people who actually show up is worth more than 5,000 passive Page followers.

### Timing your group posts

- Post in local groups **one to two weeks before** the event, and again **two to three days before.**
- Midweek posts catch people making weekend plans.
- Share the Event itself (not a screenshot) so people can tap Interested right from the group.
- Answer comments fast. A question left unanswered for a day reads like "nobody's running this."

### Threads and X

Use these for conversation and real-time updates: lineup announcements, set-time changes, "doors are open," and quick replies. Keep posts short, add one image or clip, and join local conversations instead of only posting your own.

### YouTube Shorts

Repurpose your best Reels and TikToks here. YouTube is the most widely used platform among U.S. adults (Pew Research Center, 2025), and Shorts gives your clips a second life. Performers with longer sets can post a full song and point to the next show in the description.

### LinkedIn for B2B events

Hosting a networking mixer, a conference, a workshop or a chamber of commerce breakfast? LinkedIn is the place. Have speakers post about their sessions, share a short clip of last year's room, and ask partners to reshare. Keep the tone professional, but human.

## ![collabmarketingevvntmarketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/collabmarketingevvntmarketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=collabmarketingevvntmarketing.jpg)

Your performers already have fans. Make it easy for them to promote:

- Send each performer a simple kit: two or three vertical graphics, a 15-second clip, the date, the ticket link and suggested caption text.
- Ask them to film a "see you there" video. It's often your best-performing post.
- Partner with one or two local creators (food, nightlife, "things to do in \[your town\]" accounts). A micro-creator with 4,000 local followers can beat a big account with followers in 40 states. Be upfront about any payment or comp tickets, and make sure they disclose the partnership.

## ![ugcevvntmarketingservices](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/ugcevvntmarketingservices.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=ugcevvntmarketingservices.jpg)

User-generated content (photos and videos your attendees post) is social proof you can't buy.

- Create one short, unique hashtag (#RiversideFest2027) and put it on signs, wristbands and the stage screen.
- Ask permission before reposting, and always credit the creator.
- Set up a photo spot with good lighting. People will happily make content for you if the backdrop is good.
- Skip the wall of 30 hashtags. Three to five relevant ones (your event tag, your town, your genre) are plenty.

## ![timelinessocialeventmarketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/timelinessocialeventmarketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=timelinessocialeventmarketing.jpg)

![timelineforsocial](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/timelineforsocial.png?width=1272&height=740&name=timelineforsocial.png)

You don't need to post five times a day. Aim for a steady, doable rhythm:

- **Instagram:** 3 to 4 feed posts or Reels a week, Stories most days in the final two weeks.
- **TikTok:** 3 to 5 short videos a week if you can, fewer if quality would suffer.
- **Facebook:** 2 to 3 Page posts a week, one Event update a week (daily in the final days) and well-timed group posts.
- **Threads/X:** a few times a week, plus real-time updates on event day.

Consistency beats volume. Batch-film on one afternoon, schedule the week and go make a sandwich.

## ![evvntmarketingpromotion](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/evvntmarketingpromotion.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=evvntmarketingpromotion.jpg)

A small budget on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) can reach locals who don't follow you yet.

- **One clear CTA per ad.** "Get tickets" or "RSVP free," not both plus "follow us" plus "share with a friend."
- **Hook in the first 3 seconds.** Same rule as organic video. Movement, faces and crowd noise win.
- **Target locally.** Set a radius around your venue that matches how far people really travel for your kind of event.
- **Start small and test.** Run two versions of the hook or image, keep the winner and move budget to it.
- **Retarget warm audiences:** people who watched your videos or engaged with your Page or Event.
- **Start ads 2 to 3 weeks out,** then increase spend in the final week when urgency peaks.

## ![resultseventmarketingnow](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/resultseventmarketingnow.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=resultseventmarketingnow.jpg)

Likes feel nice. Tickets pay the band. Track:

- **Ticket sales or RSVPs by source.** Use a unique tracking link (UTM) for each platform and each performer.
- **Link clicks and sticker taps** from Stories.
- **Facebook Event responses,** Interested and Going counts over time.
- **Video watch time and shares,** which tell you what to make more of.
- **Turnout vs. tickets.** If people buy but don't show, your reminders need work.

Keep a simple spreadsheet for each event. After three or four events, you'll know which platform fills seats for your crowd.

## ![aiinevventmarketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/aiinevventmarketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=aiinevventmarketing.jpg)

AI tools can save hours: brainstorming caption ideas, resizing graphics, writing alt text, cutting long videos into short clips and drafting a posting schedule. Use them as an assistant, not as the voice. Audiences can spot generic copy a mile away, and local events win on personality. Always check AI drafts for wrong dates, made-up details and anything that doesn't sound like you. And never use AI images that misrepresent your venue or lineup. Real photos of real crowds build trust.

## ![2027socialeventmarketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/2027socialeventmarketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=2027socialeventmarketing.jpg)

- 10+ short vertical clips ready, with captions and a 3-second hook
- Stories countdown sticker and link sticker scheduled
- Meta ad with one CTA and a local radius
- UTM links for each platform and partner
- Post-event recap and thank-you planned

## ![socialevvntmarketing](https://blog.evvnt.com/hs-fs/hubfs/socialevvntmarketing.jpg?width=1272&height=716&name=socialevvntmarketing.jpg)

Here's the honest part: social media is great at getting people excited, but a lot of locals don't start on Instagram. They search "things to do this weekend near me" and land on community calendars, local news sites and listing sites. If your event isn't there, you're invisible to that crowd.

That's where getting listed comes in. With [Evvnt Premium Listing](https://evvnt.com/event-creators/premium/), you submit once and your event is distributed to 40+ targeted local listing sites, with an SEO boost, across a 5,500+ calendar network where roughly 100,000 events are posted each month. Your social posts build buzz, and your listings help people get found when they're actively looking.

For U.S. events, [Premium Email](https://evvnt.com/event-creators/email/) adds another lane: your event goes to a verified opted-in local list, with an email auto-designed from your listing, so there's nothing extra to build. And if you're selling tickets, Evvnt ticketing is free for event promoters (buyers cover the fees) and supports merch add-ons, so you can sell a T-shirt alongside the ticket.

We've been helping local events for 14 years, and our in-house team is made up of real people. Stuck? Call us. An actual person picks up.

Social media in 2027 rewards promoters who show up consistently, show the real vibe of their events and make it easy for people to say yes. Lead with short video, treat your Facebook Event as home base, show up in the local groups where your neighbors hang out, team up with your performers, and give every post one clear next step. Then make sure the people who aren't scrolling can still find you. Do that, and you'll spend less time worrying about turnout and more time enjoying the show you worked so hard to put together.
