Then one of the biggest names in hip-hop walked into the gym, and it turned into a day nobody in Cordova will forget. Memphis-born rapper **GloRilla** surprised students and staff at Cordova High on Friday, Oct. 2, and she didn't come empty-handed. She gave the school **$25,000**, a gift Memphis-Shelby County Schools said was for the seniors. The district summed up the moment perfectly in a post: she "turned the whole place ALL THE WAY UP." So how does a Grammy-nominated star end up at a Memphis homecoming? Shoot your shot, apparently. GloRilla told WREG that a Cordova High coach, Coach Barnes, slid into her DMs to invite her. The timing was perfect, because she'd already been looking for a way to give back. Her answer was simple: she'd come, and did they need anything? "I've been blessed," she told WREG, adding that she's in a happy space in her life and wants to bless other people. Asked why giving back matters, she kept it real: it's cool, and it brings her back to her Memphis roots. "I went to a high school in Memphis," she said. Born Gloria Woods, GloRilla has gone from growing up in Memphis to international stardom, and she's not slowing down. She recently teamed up with gospel great Kirk Franklin again on a song called "This Time," and she told WREG she has a single with Sexyy Red coming soon, plus more new projects on the way. But before any of that, she made time for a gym full of Memphis teenagers. Somewhere in Cordova, a group of seniors is already planning how to spend it, and one coach has earned bragging rights for life. Let that be a lesson, Memphis: it never hurts to ask. **Source:** WREG News Channel 3.
