--- title: The Grey Jay Is Closing After October 12 description: The James Beard-finalist brunch spot on Church Street serves its last shakshuka on October 12. Four years, one legendary brunch, and a lease that didn't add up. image: https://blog.evvnt.com/hubfs/evvnt-blog/branded/burlington-grey-jay-closing-october-223755055675.jpg --- [Skip to content](https://blog.evvnt.com/local/burlington-grey-jay-closing-october#main-content) [![Evvnt](https://blog.evvnt.com/hubfs/Evvnt_Rework_Final-01%20(1)-2.svg "Evvnt")](http://www.evvnt.com) Search # The Grey Jay Is Closing After October 12 [Richard Green](https://blog.evvnt.com/local/author/richard-green) Oct 6, 2026, 1:27:05 PM Share - [fFacebook](https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fblog.evvnt.com%2Flocal%2Fburlington-grey-jay-closing-october) - [ùïèX](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=The+Grey+Jay+Is+Closing+After+October+12&url=https%3A%2F%2Fblog.evvnt.com%2Flocal%2Fburlington-grey-jay-closing-october) - [inLinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/sharing/share-offsite/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fblog.evvnt.com%2Flocal%2Fburlington-grey-jay-closing-october) - [WhatsApp](https://wa.me/?text=The+Grey+Jay+Is+Closing+After+October+12+https%3A%2F%2Fblog.evvnt.com%2Flocal%2Fburlington-grey-jay-closing-october) - [Messenger](fb-messenger://share/?link=https%3A%2F%2Fblog.evvnt.com%2Flocal%2Fburlington-grey-jay-closing-october) - [‚úâEmail](mailto:?subject=The+Grey+Jay+Is+Closing+After+October+12&body=The+James+Beard-finalist+brunch+spot+on+Church+Street+serves+its+last+shakshuka+on+October+12.+Four+years%2C+one+legendary+brunch%2C+and+a+lease+that+didn%27t+add+up.%0A%0Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fblog.evvnt.com%2Flocal%2Fburlington-grey-jay-closing-october) - üîóCopy link Follow Evvnt - [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrMM_e9d4Nwx5uNMvs19KVA) - [TikTok](https://www.tiktok.com/@evvnt) - [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/evvnt/) Church Street is losing one of its best brunch tables. The Grey Jay, the eastern Mediterranean-inflected spot at the top of Church Street, closes after service on Sunday, October 12. Chef and co-owner Cara Chigazola Tobin says the math just didn't work as the lease came up for renewal: as much as the team loves it, it just doesn't quite work. Four years is a short run for a place that became a 2025 James Beard Award finalist. The shawarma wraps, the shakshuka, the French toast — it all earned national attention from a little room at 135 Pearl Street, a building that spent 22 years as Burlington's only LGBTQ+ bar. The team honored that history with a photo collection in the foyer. The silver lining: sister restaurant Honey Road isn't going anywhere, and your Grey Jay gift certificates work there. The team is approaching its 10-year anniversary on Church Street. You've got until Sunday. Go get the shakshuka one more time.
